The place
A five-bedroom Victorian house with three bathrooms, located on the edge downtown Uxbridge. And motorists are a short drive from Durham’s network of highways.
The history
The first house was purchased in 1885 by the purchaser for $2200. Thomas Chapple, a lawyer and member of Ontario’s legislature. In 1948, a doctor from the area purchased the house and used part of it for his medical office. The current owners are a family of three children who bought the house in 2022. A family relocates to a new area due to new job opportunities. They are selling their home.

The tour
Here’s a closer look at the façade, with its large porch and bay window. The Township of Uxbridge commissioned that plaque detailing the property’s history, but it hasn’t yet been officially designated as a heritage home.
The foyer has heated herringbone tile. The rest is lined with hardwood engineered.
The owners rearranged the layout of the kitchen in a way that was different from the usual. They moved it to the front. It has an island with five seats and leads out to a porch which doubles as an outdoor dining area.
JennAir appliances can be found throughout the kitchen. These include a six burner gas cooktop, double-door refrigerator, and recessed microwave.
This view shows the curvy staircase, floral-themed dining area and the dining room.
The dining area is equipped with an open wine rack flanked on either side by a wine cooler under the window.
The office is located beyond the dining room, and features built-in shelves and a daybed.
The door leading to the garage is in the office.
The living room is located on the other side of the main level. The fireplace—with a dramatic tile surround—looks like a wood burner but is actually electric. There are two walkouts from the house to the porch.
Crown moulding frames the ceiling detail like a painting.
This mudroom is connected to the living area and leads out to the garden. It also has heated flooring and more storage.
This family room is next door, with funky wallpapers and a view into the backyard.
Then, let’s move on to the second floor. The second floor has four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a small balcony overlooking the neighborhood.
The main bedroom features a walk-in wardrobe and a bathroom ensuite.
Here’s the U-shaped closet. There’s plenty of built-in storage here, with hanging racks and pull-out drawers.
And here’s the ensuite, with a glass shower, a double vanity and more heated floors.
This secondary room has a built in banquette with storage underneath.
Many of the home’s doors have their original ornate doorknobs.
The shared bathroom has a clawfoot bathtub (not shown), a glass-enclosed shower, two single vanities, and penny-round white tile flooring.
There’s also a laundry room upstairs.
The backyard features a saltwater in-ground pool, hot tub, trampoline, as well as plenty of space for entertaining.
The summer poolside lounge is shown below.
