Statistics Canada releases updated data on the educational achievement of racialized immigrants

According to a new study by Statistics Canada (StatsCan), racialized immigrants in Canada, especially racialized women, are more educated today than ever before. Release.
StatsCan compared data from Canadian Censuses collected in 2006 and in 2021 to come up with its findings. “the evolution of the education of individuals aged 25 to 64 by racialized group, gender and immigrant status.”

In 2021, the educational achievements of racialized immigrants in Canada will be compared.
The percentage of people who are racialized and aged between 25 and 64. “with a bachelor’s degree or higher”The price of a litre of milk has increased by more than 14% in the last few years.
This percentage was 41.5% among racialized migrants who were admitted to Canada prior to 2011. However, when evaluating the racialized immigrant population who were admitted between 2011 and 2021 this percentage increases to 58.8%.
Note: In total, 46.4% of all racialized immigrants across Canada had at least a bachelor’s degree in 2021.

*StatsCan says that the term racialized group “is derived directly from the concept of ‘visible minority.’ The Employment Equity Act defines visible minorities as ‘persons, other than Aboriginal peoples, who are non-Caucasian in race or non-white in colour.’”
Racialized women and recent immigrants among Canada’s most educated
In 2021, racialized women and recent* racialized immigrants were among the most educated in Canada.
*Recent immigrants are defined by StatsCan as those who “landed in Canada in the 10 years leading up to the 2021 Census”
StatsCan noted that “the increase in the education level of racialized immigrant women was larger than the increases … among racialized non-immigrant women.”
StatsCan reports, as an example, that the number of immigrant women who are racialized and have at least a bachelor degree increased by 15.3% between 2006-2021. This number increased from 31% in 2006. to 46.3% by 2021. In contrast, the increase among racialized, non-immigrant Canadian women was only 9.9% (42.1% to 52% from 2006).
Why there are more educated racialized immigrant in Canada today than ever before
StatsCan suggests these levels of growth can be attributed in part to the types immigration programs that welcome these recent racialized immigrants.
According to data available from 2021, over half of all immigrants who lived in Canada aged 15 or older (53.2%) entered this country via an economic immigration category/program.
Separated according to when they arrived in Canada: 58.0% of immigrants arrived between 2011 and 2021. Meanwhile, 50.8% of immigrants arrived before 2011.
StatsCan points out that economic immigration categories, programs and programs often signal higher education. “in most immigration programs in Canada, higher educational attainment is part of the admission criteria under the economic category.”
