Canada’s express entry system provides a framework for welcoming economic immigration into the country. The system will welcome 110,770 new immigrants to Canada this year. Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada predicts that this number will increase to 117 500 between 2025 and 2026. So, if you’re interested in working and living in Canada this is the high time to try your luck. There are several programs within the Express Entry System you can try and here is what is done to determine candidates’ eligibility in different fields.

Classification of Express Entry Classes

Express Entry is divided into three federal Canadian immigration programs:

  • The Federal Skilled Trades Program
  • The Federal Skilled Workers Program FSWP
  • The Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

These programs each have their own eligibility criteria. Candidates who meet the requirements of any of the above programs are placed in the Express Entry pool. A Comprehensive Ranking System is used to assign the points to the candidates who are shortlisted. The system above assigns points according to human capital factors, such as:

  • Language Ability- English or French is the official Canadian Languages depending on the province or Territory you wish to live and work.
  • Education
  • Work experience

Sometimes, the point system is affected by the marital status. You can also calculate your points using our interactive calculator.

Draws for Express Entry Candidates

IRCC, an agency that oversees the Express Entry System, holds annual draws for candidates who want to come to Canada. This department invites all eligible candidates to apply to become Canadian Permanent Residents (PR).

Recently, IRCC introduced new category-based draws to identify individuals with specific skills in language or professional experience which are in high demand in Canada. Candidates who meet the Express Entry CRS minimum score for any program above are eligible.

Candidates who receive an invitation to apply (ITA) are required to submit their applications within the specified timeframe. These candidates are then subjected to a rigorous screening process and must pass a series checks to determine if they meet the criteria stated in their application. After a successful application, the candidate is granted PR status. This honor allows them to live in Canada permanently and as a free citizen. After completing the required steps, candidates are granted PR status. This honor allows them to reside in Canada permanently as free citizens.
