San Juan Puerto Rico: Start Your Luxury Cruise in San Juan

We started our luxury cruise in San Juan, Puerto Rico.  A 3 day stay in the St Regis Bahia Beach ResortBefore we boarded our first Ritz-Carlton Yacht cruiseSan Juan has the perfect atmosphere for our luxury Caribbean vacation.    

Our stay was made perfect by a great upgraded suite with a view of the ocean.  We enjoyed the many amenities of the resort while still getting a relaxing vacation.  When we left San Juan for A luxury cruise to Fort LauderdaleThe bar was already high for our expectations.

Plan Your Stay at St Regis Puerto Rico

We usually cruised the Caribbean from the same port and back.  It was easy to book airfare from Toronto during Caribbean Cruise Season.  But our Ritz-Carlton cruise Start in San Juan Puerto Rico. Finish in Fort LauderdaleFlorida.  We found a good alternative for the strange flight combinations from Toronto with Air Canada.  Only to have the San Juan flight changed several times.  We looked for hotels in San Juan once we had booked the final flight.  

We always fly to a port several days prior to the start of a cruise so we spent 3 days in San Juan.  Because we got such great Marriott Bonvoy rewards loyalty and points with a value-added programWe looked at the Marriott options available in San Juan.  We looked into staying in the downtown district near the cruise terminal.  There were two other options. Ritz-CarltonHotels on the beaches near town.  And we do love our Ritz-Carlton splurges!

When we saw the St Regis Bahia Beach ResortWe knew it would be worth checking out.  We had an amazing St Regis Rome: a luxury stay in Rome.  We wondered what a St RegisWhat would a resort property be like?  

The key challenge with the St RegisIt was a location.  It was the same as the Ritz-CarltonProperty is a term used to describe a wide range of properties. St RegisIt was quite far from the town.  We decided not to rent a car because we only had three days.  We planned to stay at the resort and enjoy some downtime in this more remote spot.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

We visited San Juan on other trips as a port of call for cruises.  We loved Old Town San Juan.  We found the most amazing thing. statue garden in the Santa María Magdalena de Pazzis CemeterySan Juan.  This was our first time flying in for a few nights.

Our flight from Chicago to San Juan consisted of a quick hop and then a longer flight.  We were always concerned about winter travel in Toronto and other northern cities such as Chicago.  We arrived plenty of time before our connection.

We arrived in San Juan, and then made our way to the airport.  The driver we booked was waiting for us at the airport with a sign with our names on it.  This was the perfect way to begin a relaxing vacation!

As we drove towards the resort, our driver informed us about the local area.  We didn’t plan any excursions, but listened to the food suggestions.  As we approached the resort we passed through a colourful village.

A cold cloth, a cold drink and a cold cloth welcomed us to the St Regis Bahia Beach Resort.  After a briefing on the facilities in the resort, we walked to our suite.

We were thrilled with the large suite that was upgraded to oceanfront.  We could hear the waves over the grassy yard.  A bottle of wine was waiting for us when we arrived.

After we settled in we wandered about the St Regis Bahia Beach Resort.  The resort offered several pools.  We made sure to visit them all during our relaxing stay.

Colour and Art Around The Resort

We entered the St Regis Bahia Beach ResortWe saw the preparations being made for the Christmas season.  We found beautiful decorations everywhere we went.  

We also discovered an interesting collection of sculptures in the resort.  We returned at different times and enjoyed the different views.

Our luxury cruise started in San Juan with a splash of colour and art.

Nature Tour: Exploring the Grounds

We had no plans to leave the resort.  We booked spots for a nature tour of the resort one afternoon when we heard about it.

Our golf cart was driven by a guide who had extensive experience.  We stopped at different places to learn more about the interesting flora.

We stopped by the Rio Espiritu Santi and in the distance, we saw the El Yunque National Forest.  We were definitely planning to return to San Juan in the future, and we wanted to see this vast tropical rainforest with its diverse biological diversity.

Our guide was heading back to the hotel after our quick glance at the local area on our luxury ship start in San Juan.

Good Food Options on the Resort

The downside of the St Regis Bahia Beach ResortIts location was a plus.  It was a distance from other restaurants without a vehicle.  We were happy to have a variety of good options for all meals at the resort.  

It was always an advantage to have a good relationship with our Marriott Ambassador statusTo have breakfast included in our stays.  We had a full breakfast every morning at the hotel. Seagrapes Restaurant.  The birds put on a great show!

You can also find out more about the following: Seagrapes Restaurant We chose to eat at a local restaurant.  We enjoyed some local treats.  We had pizza one day and ate it by the swimming pool.

Dinner was divided into two main categories.  There were two main choices for dinner. St Regis BarWe enjoyed two dinners at this venue despite the limited menu.  The Paros RestaurantThe menu was much more extensive and the prices were higher.  We had enough food for one dinner.

Our 3-day stay was fine if we ate all our meals at the resort.  We would like to come back again, but we’d need a vehicle so that we can shop for groceries or other food.  We ate very well on our luxury ship that started in San Juan.

Enjoying St Regis traditions

There were a few St RegisWe love the traditions we discovered on our travels. St Regis hotels.  

We were always pleased to have a great butler team and concierge team during our stay.  They arranged transportation from the Airport and to the Start of our stay. our first Ritz-Carlton Yacht cruise.  The team booked dinners for us and arranged a nature tour.  The butler delivered a large pot to our room every morning.  The butlers at St Regis Bahia Beach ResortUnder Isaac went above and beyond to make sure we were pampered during our stay.  

We had a great time with our first champagne sabering. Afternoon Tea in Washington DC at the St Regis.  When we Stayed at St Regis RomeThe nightly sabrage is one of the St RegisTraditions we love.  We were sure we would not miss the St Regis Bahia Beach Resort.  Isaac and his butler team host the nightly Champagne Sabrage event.  Always a tasty and fun treat as the sun went out.

We planned A luxury Caribbean vacation is a must-do..  We started our trip by spending 3 days at the St Regis Bahia Beach ResortIt was the perfect way to relax.  When We boarded the Ritz-Carlton yacht in San JuanWe were ready to continue our journey in style.

The resort offered a wide variety of food and drinks.  We had plenty of room to relax by the pool or on the beach.  Although we did not play golf, there was also a golf course. 

We didn’t book a car or any offsite tours for this trip.  Next time, we’ll probably rent a vehicle to explore the area more and have more options for food.  We got the relaxing holiday we wanted, and 3 days at the resort was just right.
