IRCC has drawn a winner in today’s draw.ssued 3,200 more ITAs in a category-based draw for eligible French-language proficiency candidates with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS) Score of 420.
Note: Since December 18-21, 2020, this is the first time IRCC has held four Express Entry draws within seven days.
Express Entry
IRCC’s system of managing applications for economic immigration to three programs – the Federal Skilled Worker Program(FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program(FSTP), and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) – is called the Express Entry system.
Since June 2023, the Express Entry system has employed three different types of draws. The three draw types used by IRCC include:
- General
- Program-specific
- Category-based
As outlined below, there are notable differences between these draw types.
Draws for General and Program-specific express entry
Both part of IRCC’s Express Entry system since it was first introduced in 2015, these two draw types both prioritize immigration candidates who have the highest CRS scores.
Note: CRS scores are values that each eligible Express Entry candidate is assigned by IRCC to represent their combined score based on a number of different human capital factors (age, work experience, official language proficiency etc.).
Between deciding that you want to immigrate, and receiving a ITA from IRCC, there are generally three steps. These are:
- Confirm that you qualify for at least one Express Entry program (see the list above).
- Create an online profile with IRCC (at the same time, receive your CRS score)
- Wait for IRCC to conduct its next Express Entry draw, at which time you will know whether you will be given an ITA
Note: ITAs, which are the only way for Express Entry candidates to eventually submit an electronic Application for Permanent Residence (eAPR) to IRCC, are only given to candidates with a CRS score greater than the department’s cut-off a particular draw.

Category-BasedDraws for Express Entry
In June 2023, IRCC conducted its first category-based Express Entry draw. Designed to attract Canadian immigration candidates with specific types of “in-demand” work experience and proficiencies, IRCC chose to focus their attention on candidates who fit in the following six target categories (based on an assessment of Canada’s national labour market gaps and demographic needs).
Note: In 2024, IRCC confirmed it would continue with the same six original target categories.
- Healthcare work experience
- Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) work experience
- Trades industry work experience
- Transport industry work experience
- Agriculture and Agri-Food industry work experience
- Strong French language ability
