The Hotel De Glace, Quebec: Winter Fun at its Best

We visited Quebec City for five daysWe had a great time at the winter festival Hotel De Glace in Quebec.  Day trip to Quebec Village Vacances ValcartierThis ice hotel was a fantastic tour.  Even if we had not stayed in the ice-hotel, it was still a wonderful experience.

If we had planned a longer trip, we would have been able to enjoy all that the Village Vacances ValcartierWinter fun is available.  But it’s a fun place to visit all year round.

On the day of the visit to the Hotel de GlaceThe temperatures plummeted.  We walked beside the bus stop to catch our bus. Hotel de Glace.  The normal indoor temperature was around -4°C.  But the extreme cold still knocked this indoor temperature to -10°C. 

Every year, November is the month of Hôtel de GlaceIt was built.  Each year a unique theme was used to guide the design and décor of the different rooms.  When the temperatures started to rise towards the end March, the Hotel de GlaceIt was destroyed.  It was no longer safe to visit and could not be maintained.

We booked a UnitourThe package included the bus ride to and from Quebec City as well as a ticket to visit the Hotel de Glace.  The bus dropped me off at the Village Vacances Valcartier.  This was an enormous amusement park which offered different things both in summer and winter.  We saw the snow tube runs on the hills when we visited.  Our bus trip was only for a short time.  If we wanted to experience all that Village Vacances ValcartierHad to offer, we would take a vehicle for a return visit that was longer.

The Ice Hotel Complex

We have reached the Hotel de GlaceThrough a separate entrance on the Hotel Valcartier.  The icehotel site was open for tours all day, up to 9pm.  If we booked hotel rooms to stay in the Hotel de GlaceIncluded was a second hotel at the Valcartier Hotel.  After 9pm, you can access your ice hotel. 

We entered the Hotel de GlaceProperty and saw 3 different building.  The first building was the Chapel.  The main public space was located in the larger building.  The final building contained all the rooms of the ice hotel.  In the courtyard, we found a firepit, maple syrup shack, and the Arctic Spas.

Touring The Public Areas At The Hôtel De Glace

The Chapel was our first ice structure.  We learned that the chapel could be booked for anything from a marriage proposal to a civil proposal.  In the front of this chapel, there was an altar.  There were also ice benches with animal fur coverings for guests.  We saw the first time the colour and ice wall carvings were used in the chapel.

We then moved on to the main public building.  We stopped in the first open space to admire the ice designs and sculptures.  We found a small room on the right with a Coca Cola bear, and what appeared to be a sorceress.

The next room was clearly designed for children of any age. The wall was covered with carvings of mythical animals.  There was also a small slide to add to the fun.

The central area was decorated with a colourful musical theme.  It was interesting to watch the lights move to the music.  The final room featured a long ice table in the middle, covered with animal hides.  The walls were covered with more interesting carvings.

The Hotel De Glace Serves an Icy Drink

The long ice bar was located in the main building.  We saw carved ice glass on the bar, ready to be filled. 

The bar menu had a wide selection of cocktails.  We watched the bartender make a few interesting drinks.  We chose the tasty cocktail with maple whiskey and maple crème.  

We grabbed our drink, and then we headed to the room with a fireplace.  The perfect place for a tasty but icy drink.

The Icy Hotel Rooms

We had one major component of the Hotel de GlaceExplore the left.  We checked out the floor plans for the themed suites in the final building.  The creativity of the rooms we saw as we walked from one room to another was awe-inspiring.  We found some simple rooms with single beds, double beds or triple bed.  

It was the suites, however, that really caught our eye.  As we moved through the hotel, we discovered colourful and artistic rooms.  Each room was a visual delight.  

We were unable to decide which of the rooms we would prefer.  When we found out that the bathroom was an outhouse, we weren’t sure if we wanted to stay the night.  Even with a hotel room, it is still a bit pricey. Hotel ValcartierAs a back-up

Ice Art on Walls

We paid particular attention to the walls as we walked through the halls.  We found interesting ice sculptures everywhere we looked.  The carvings were quite unique in their detail.

After exploring the Hotel de GlaceWe then returned to the bus to drive to Our stay in Quebec City.  We were so happy that we planned our trip to this amazing location for winter fun. Hotel De Glace in Quebec.

Quebec City Winter Visit Was A Success 

The hotel section of the site is a great place to wander around and explore the rooms. Hotel de GlaceWe felt like we were in a ice art gallery.  We had a great time at the Hotel De GlaceQuebec was a unique and unforgettable experience.  It was a trip we could repeat every year with a different theme.
