Foreign nationals who have a valid passport LMIA-exempt work permitCRS points can be earned by working as a NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 in addition to the other jobs. “arranged employment” if:

  • The work permit specifies the employer.
  • They have worked for the employer for a year full-time (or an equivalent amount of part-time).
  • The candidate has a valid job contract of at least a year’s duration from the employer, starting from the date IRCC issues their PR visa.

FSTP

To be eligible to receive CRS points, you must be aged under “arranged employment”FSTP employees must have a (or several) job offer(s) that:

  • Total(s) 30 hours of employment per week (if separate job offers made by up to two individual employers* are needed)
  • Is/are for full-time, continuous, paid work (at least thirty hours per week) that spans at least one year
  • The work that is covered by this category is: A qualifying skilled trade occupation (under a qualifying NOC)

*The qualifying employer(s) must either have a new positive LMIA that approves the offer and names the worker and their position or a work permit that was issued** based on a positive LMIA.

**This applies to foreign nationals who are currently working in Canada in a skilled trade job

Applicants for the FSTP should be aware that foreign nationals who have a LMIA-based permit already in place must:

  • Employer listed on the work permit
  • Be authorized to work in Canada both on the date they apply for the PR visa as well as when the visa is granted
  • Accepted as a PR, they will be offered a full-time position by their current employer.

Note:This full-time offer must last at least one year and be in a position that is in the same three digit level of NOC as your present job

IRCC clarifies that a work permit is not considered a job offer by the CRS for candidates who are applying through Express Entry, regardless of whether they are working in Canada or abroad.
