Savannah Georgia: So Many Sights To Explore
Savannah, Georgia is a beautiful city with many attractions to explore. Our luxury Savannah is a great place to stayThen, you can get in touch with us. Perry Lane HotelThe hotel is a great base to explore the city.
We began our exploration with the Old Savannah TrolleyWe got our bearings on the tour. We saw the interesting buildings and the great city squares. We explored the waterfront by foot. Later, we took a riverboat tour on a paddlewheel and saw the town from a different perspective.
We bought tickets for a show one night. Jersey BoysShow at the Historic Savannah TheatreI had the most fun ever!
We loved our first trip to Savannah and our 6 day exploration.
Get Your bearings on the Old Savannah Trolley Tour
The following are some of the ways to get in touch with us. Our stay in SavannahWe found many ways to tour the area and learn about its rich history. We explored the free walking tour and horse drawn carriages as well as other interesting ways to get around the city. Ghost tours in various types of vehicles were a big attraction in Savannah. We didn’t pass on that historical view.
The concierge recommended this hotel Old Savannah Trolley tour. We were picked up from our hotel and taken to start the route at the Savannah Welcome Centre. We were a bit later than planned, so we waited a while before we could board. The long wait convinced us to take the trolley to the end to get a better idea of where we were. We decided which places we wanted to return to. It was not the hop-on-hop off experience we paid money for.
The trolley route meandered through the city, stopping at 22 different squares. We realized that the trolley had not really travelled very far when we walked through the same area. Our bus driver told us the history of the city as he drove and pointed out historical sites.
At two stops local storytellers in costume hopped on the bus and spoke about the attractions at the respective sites. It was great to hear another entertaining story during our trolley tour.
Our trolley trip lasted a few hours. It was our first glimpse of the sights we wanted revisit in Savannah.
We Found The Squares – Exploring the Sights in Savannah Georgia
There are 24 originals. Savannah still maintains 22 squares. The squares had lots of benches and were a lovely green space. In the squares, we saw our first glimpse of Spanish Moss. We didn’t realize it was available all year round. We were warned to not touch the moss.
Each square was unique in its design, history, and dedication to historical figures or events. As we walked from square to square, we found statues and plaques.
Chippewa SquareWe walked there several times. Tourists loved it. This was the place where Forest Gump sat during the movie. But the bench has been moved to the Visitor’s Centre.
We didn’t feel like we had seen all of Savannah until we walked around the main squares. Our stay in Savannah.
Beautiful Buildings were everywhere we looked
We saw many beautiful structures on our tour. Old Savannah Trolley tour. After our tour, we spent more of our time in Savannah admiring the architecture. It was similar to what we found on New Orleans: A visit to the city of New OrleansThe houses were decorated with beautiful ironwork.
We wandered down Jones Street for a while. The large trees formed a shade canopy along the road. It was said to have been the “prettiest street in Savannah”.
We visited historic sites and museums. There were many places that offered tours. General Sherman’s HeadquartersThen, you can get in touch with us. Green–Meldrim HouseWhat’s beside the St. John’s Episcopal Church. The Telfair MuseumCollections that represented three centuries of art, architecture and design were available. The statues that decorated the front of the Museum were beautiful.

Savannah is a city full of interesting buildings and architecture.
Churches In Savannah
We did our best to ensure that we Old Savannah TrolleyWe got our first look at several churches around Savannah during this tour.
Walking around the neighbourhood Perry Lane HotelWe passed the Independent Presbyterian ChurchIt was seen several times. I saw it at various times of the day and night. The church offered a guided tour, but we never made it at the right moment.
Savannah and the surrounding area has many points of interest. PeregrinWe saw the twin spires from our rooftop bar. Cathedral Basilica St John the Baptist. It had a classic Neo-Gothic look from the outside.
Visit inside Cathedral Basilica St John the BaptistIt was a stunningly beautiful interior. It was considered to be one of the oldest, most beautiful churches in America. Everywhere we turned, colour and art astonished us.

Explore the JW Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside
When we booked Our stay in SavannahWe considered both the Perry Lane HotelThen, there is the JW Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside. We ultimately decided that we wanted to stay in the historical part of town. We knew we wanted to see the historic part of town. JW MarriottThe riverfront area. The riverfront area. JW MarriottIt was a huge former power plant complex, with three different hotel buildings. Everywhere we turned, we saw interesting pieces of artwork.
The main Power Plant was like a large museum. On the main floor, display cases and walls were covered with historical artifacts and geodes. A giant metal sculpture depicting a prehistoric Amphicoeliias fragillimus dinosaur hung from the vaulted roof. Just to see the fascinating displays was worth a visit.
There were large art displays in the main halls of both the Atlantic and Three Muses building. We walked and looked at some art. The Atlantic building also featured a large music screen in the lobby, and interactive touchscreens. Gretsch Museum. The exhibits at the Gretsch MuseumHonor one of the most innovative and influential instrument makers.
We were glad that we had planned to visit the JW Marriott Power Plant SavannahExplore the sights of Savannah.
Explore Savannah’s Riverfront to See the Sights
We have explored the fascinating JW Marriott Savannah Plant RiversideWe slowly strolled down the waterfront. We found a large number of lawn chairs by the pulsating waterfall. It was a wonderful place to relax, take in the sights and enjoy the sounds.
We saw a constant flow of boat traffic along the Savannah River. The Georgia QueenRiverboat cruised under and back from the Talmadge Memorial Bridge. We were fascinated by the massive container vessels that slowly moved along the river. Savannah is the third-busiest port in the United States, just behind New York City and Los Angeles.
We walked along Bay Street, avoiding the steep and dangerous staircases that lead up from the waterfront. In Jackson Square, the City Hall building was admired for its distinctive golden dome.
We found many places to stop and eat or drink as we walked along the riverfront. It would have certainly been a different atmosphere for Savannah is a great place to stay. It is well worth a visit if you are exploring the sights of Savannah.
Paddlewheel tour at night to see Savannah from the water
We did not know how busy Savannah would be. We pre-arranged several things before we arrived. We booked a riverboat paddlewheel cruise. Savannah Riverboat CruisesSunset and dinner at the Georgia Queen When the weather was predicted to be good. We were reminded to not always trust weather forecasts.
The clouds were already settling in for the evening when we arrived at our dock. We knew that we wouldn’t be able to see the sunset or the night sky on our river trip. It was confirmed by a quick glance at the back that it wasn’t even a paddlewheel boat.
The boat had two dining rooms. We were directed to the main deck and were surprised to find that there were only 40 people onboard. The buffet was a good selection of food. The table service included drinks at a cost.
Our riverboat tour began by heading towards the Talmadge Memorial Bridge. After we went under the bridge, it was interesting to see the activity at the docks.
After turning around, riverboats headed back up the Savannah River. We walked past the Savannah Convention Centre to see the ferry boats crossing between Fig Island, the riverfront of Savannah and the Savannah Convention Centre.
The riverboat continued along Fig Island, before turning around as darkness fell. As we returned to the main Savannah Riverfront area, we had a wonderful night view of all the sights we saw during the day.
We were able to explore Savannah from a new perspective by taking a riverboat tour.
The Historic Savannah Theatre – A Great Place to Enjoy Entertainment
We planned a busy day on Visit Savannah. We wandered by the Historic Savannah TheatreThe theatre is located near our hotel. This was the oldest continuously-running theatre in the United States. The banner for the Jersey BoysThe show has called us.
We were shown the theatre seats and found good floor seats at a reasonable price for an evening performance. We did not know the show. Jersey Boys story. We found many songs we know when we searched the music of Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons.
The Jersey Boys Show at the Historic Savannah TheatreIt was so much enjoyable. The story was good, the singers were great and the production as a whole was excellent.
We added entertainment to our Savannah sightseeing plan.
Explore Savannah Georgia in 6 Days!
We had a wonderful 6 days in Savannah, Georgia. The buildings and squares had us wandering around the city. We enjoyed walking along the waterfront to get a better view of the city. Our night in the Historic Savannah TheatreWe were surprised by the entertainment we received.
The first 6 days we spent in Savannah were fantastic. We had a great time exploring the city of Savannah, but there were many other sights that we didn’t have enough time to see. Our stay in Savannah. Savannah is still on our list.
