Justin and myself moved to Halton Hills in Ontario a few year ago and love to highlight the best things to see and do in this vibrant city. It’s one of The best small cities in OntarioWith many hidden gems. Halton Hills consists of several small towns, villages, and communities. You can visit Georgetown when you travel to Halton Hills. Glen WilliamsActon, or other rural settlements all on the same day.

Halton Hills is known for its stunning nature and hiking trails. However, there are also many other unique things to do. There are several main street downtown areas that have charming little shops and local activities. If you’re looking for more things to do around Halton Hills, take a look at my list. Halton Hills Day Trip

Are you planning a day trip to Ontario? This itinerary features local attractions, shopping, events and dining options. You’ll venture through Georgetown, Glen Williams and Acton. Glen Williams to Georgetown is less than a 5 minute drive, while the drive to Acton is only 10-15 minutes (don’t worry, it’s worth the drive to Acton!).

Let’s start our day in Georgetown, Ontario. Justin and myself live in this house. While there are so many businesses to check out in downtown Georgetown, we’ll start there. Please feel free to browse the shops.This list is not exhaustive.), though here are a few that we’d like to put the spotlight on.

Lyla’s House is the newest coffee shop in downtown Georgetown and it’s a lovely spot to meet with friends. The ambiance at Lyla’s House is vibrant, bright and chic. There is a large seating space and art on the walls. Lyla’s House serves Detour Coffee, which is one of my absolute favourite coffee shops and coffee roasters from where I grew up, Dundas is located in the city of Dundas.

Along with delicious coffee, baked goods and local art (I was delighted to find a vegan-friendly muffin), you can also buy the creations of local artisans. There’s coffee merchandise, jewelry, hair accessories, books, mugs, things for your home and more.

This cafe is similar to the really cool and stylish ones that you’d find in Toronto, but with a warm and welcoming small town vibe. We were immediately greeted when we arrived and I can’t wait to return. After all, I’ve got my punch card now and I’m well on my way to a free coffee!

InSpirit Centre in downtown Georgetown is a metaphysical spiritual boutique where you’ll feel the positive vibes as soon as you enter the shop. There’s a wide selection of crystals, incense, candles, jewelry, tarot cards, handmade gifts and so much more.

We met Barbara Ford, the co-founder, who is a paranormal expert and holistic practitioner. She is also a spiritual advisor. She has over 25 years of experience and is considered one of Canada’s top paranormal experts. Barbara is of Indigenous heritage, and she receives guidance from Indigenous Leaders and Elders. I’m thankful to have received a sage smudging from Barbara, a cleansing ceremony for the spirit.

Barbara also provided me with a mini reading. I chose the traditional tarot card reading and was pleasantly surprised at how accurate it was. It was a really uplifting experience, and I recommend going in for a mini reading if you’re curious.

Both Barbara Ford and Christine Ford do readings, whether you’re looking to gain some clarity in your own life or connect with loved ones who have passed. Barbara is also well known for her healing techniques and practices Reiki, Therapeutic Touch and Crystal Healing & Touch for Health.

You can also host a Psychic Party whether it’s at InSpirit Centre or within the comfort of your own home. InSpirit Centre offers a variety of services in addition to readings. upcoming workshops, including meditation sessions, tea & tarot workshops, crystal workshops and more.

The Helson GalleryThe second floor of the Halton Hills Public Library is where you will find this gallery. Situated within a former church, it’s a beautiful setting for an art gallery and it’s free to visit anytime. The Sisnett Lobby is home to a rotating art gallery, and the Sisnett Lobby’s art changes monthly.

Right now, there is a lot of excitement about the “Strictly Local” exhibit celebrates the Town of Halton Hills’ 50th anniversary. This exhibition features local artist’s unique perspectives and views on the town. Every work of art, no matter the medium, represents Halton Hills, whether it’s a landscape or abstract work.

We saw some artworks that highlighted local landmarks, establishments and peaceful places in the nature. The exhibit features 54 pieces of artwork by 48 local artist. Coming up next at Helson Gallery is the Halton Black History Awareness Society’s Emancipation Art Exhibition.

The menu has a wide variety of tofu and vegetables dishes. Ask your server if your dish can be made vegan. I ordered Pad See Ew with rice noodle as they had run out of flat noodle at the time, and Justin ordered Thai Pepper with vegetables and tofu.

It’s easy to spend hours here browsing the vinyl records, vintage signage, books, retro clothing and items for the home. If you’re looking for something unusual or offbeat, chances are that you’ll find it here.

There are always new items coming into stock, so you’ll discover something new every time you visit. Find a unique gift for yourself or a special someone. There are so many treasures inside this historic building, and it’s one of the best places to go antiquing in Ontario.

Williams Mill Creative Art Studios is one of the best places to visit in Glen Williams. It’s a working art studio and art gallery all in one. Williams Mill is spread across several heritage buildings. Each artist has his or her own booth and workspace. Visit the glass blowing, stone cutting, and art studios of painters, jewelers and textile artists.

When you’re taking a day trip to Halton Hills, spend the afternoon taking a workshop with one of Williams Mill’s artists. Skytree Smith has glass blowing workshops. Skytree guides you through the entire process of creating glass art. It’s pretty incredible how glass is created and you’ll be an active participant. No experience is necessary.

Pauline Gladstone, a professional artist, offers an opportunity to purchase a work of art by Pauline Gladstone. Artful Adventures Workshop. It’s a four hour workshop, no experience is required, and all the supplies are included. It’s geared towards couples, groups of friends and families (adults and children ages 9+) who are looking to have some creative fun. You’ll come away with great memories and a finished work of art that you made!

Halton Hills Day trip: Acton (Ontario)

From Glen Williams, let’s drive down the road to the town of Acton. There are some unique shops in downtown Acton, and then it’s off to the Acton Outdoor Market. Please note that the Acton Outdoor Market only takes place Thursday. You can still go to the park and take a walk, or go paddling in the pond.

Peter McCracken, the owner of this business, has a long career in the music industry. He has worked in Acton as well as Georgetown. He’s owned Pine Cone Music Studios in Georgetown and worked with Eastwood Guitars, meeting many notable Canadian musicians over the years. Stop by Black Rose Guitar House if you’re in the market for any guitar gear or accessories.

Acton Outdoor Market

The Acton Outdoor MarketFrom the beginning of June until the Thursday prior to Thanksgiving, the market takes place at Prospect Park every Thursday. There are many booths selling local produce, freshly baked goods, and local food products.

Local artisans and craftsmen also sell their handmade goods, and there are booths that offer local beer, wine, and cider. The park has plenty of free parking, and there’s plenty of room to browse and wander. While you browse through the stalls you can listen live music performed by different performers every week.

You might even see a couple of food trucks when you visit. If you have questions about the events in the town, stop by Visit Halton Hills’ booth. Acton Outdoor Market is held on Thursdays between 4 and 7pm. This is the perfect way to finish your day trip in Halton Hills.
