Cherry Blossoms in North Vancouver

Are you looking for the best places in North Vancouver to see cherry blooms? Are you looking to snap some photos or shoot some video to share on your socials, but don’t know where to start?

As residents of North Vancouver for 15+ years, we’ve found a few spots that consistently deliver. There are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of cherry blossom trees in North Vancouver. North Vancouver is home to hundreds (maybe thousands?) of trees that produce cherry blooms. 

In this post we will share with you a few places where you can find cherry trees. You don’t have to travel far to see these beautiful bright pink and white flowers. 

What month does Vancouver see cherry blossoms?

The best time to view cherry blossoms in North Vancouver would be between April and May. Early March to late April.

There are Cherry blossoms bloom at different times and in different varieties. The popular light pink variety blooms in late March, after the first wave of blooms in early March. The dark pink variety, called KanzanDepending on the weather, this usually occurs between mid-late April. 

The flowers in the photos were bright pink in mid-April.

I will admit, I went deep down the rabbit hole when researching the variations of cherry blossoms and the timing of when they’re at peak bloom. There’s a lot to learn.

North Vancouver is a great place to see cherry blossoms

We’ve narrowed the focus of this blog post to the city of North Vancouver. If you’re new to North Vancouver, or you’re visiting for the first time, Read this post to find out what you can do and see. in North Vancouver.

To keep things simple we will stick with Lonsdale Ave.North Vancouver’s main north-south route is called. North Vancouver’s main road, Lonsdale Ave., runs east and west. This makes it very easy to navigate.

The kanzan trees in the following locations produce bright pink flowers. These were the flowers that were in bloom at the moment. I plan to start earlier next year and will update the post with other locations that offer other varieties of sakura. 

Victoria Park (Lonsdale Ave & Keith Rd)

Find us at Lonsdale Ave & Keith RoadVictoria Park in North Vancouver is home to a few large trees with bright pink flowers.

Victoria Park is actually divided by Lonsdale Ave. The cherry blossoms can be found on the east side Lonsdale. 

St John’s Church (8th St West & 13th St West)

Located west of Victoria Park, St John’s Anglican Church is surrounded by cherry blossom trees. In the photo above, 8th Street West can be seen on the right of the church sign and 13th Street West on the left.

The photo below was taken on 8th Street West. On the northside, in front the church, you can see a row cherry blossoms.

I zoomed in on the photo above to give you a sense of how many trees there are in this region.

Notice the white sign with a pointy tip on the far right of the photo above. That’s the same sign that is pictured in the above photos. 

13th Street West & Chesterfield Ave

Above is a view of the north side 13th street west, directly across the street from that church. This 2 block radius contains at least 20+ different trees.

14th Street West (between Mahon & Chesterfield )

Continue walking northwards to 14th Street West. The north side has a row of cherry trees.

Mahon Ave & 17th Street West

Continue walking north up Mahon Ave. from 14th Street West, to 17th Street West. You’ll probably be able see these bright pinks trees in the distance. They are easy to spot when they’re in peak bloom.

Mahon Park (Jones Ave)

Mahon park is easily located on a Google map. It’s a part of the green necklace routeNorth Vancouver. This urban greenway forms a scenic 7.5km loop around the city.

Cherry blossoms will bloom here earlier, most likely between early and middle March. 

The flowers look different from the bright pink ones mentioned above. These flowers are white, with a pink splash in the middle. 

The photo below was taken at Mahon Park, in mid-March. 

6th Street West & Jones Ave (St. Edmund’s Parish)

This location has a row pink cherry blossom trees at the back of the church. 

Sam Walker Park (8th St East & St Andrews Ave)

There is a cafe across the street from Sam Walker Park. It’s called Andrews On Eighth Coffee. You can enjoy a coffee in the park and admire the cherry trees. 

You can also practice your short-game on the putting green in the park. 

4th Street West & Chesterfield Ave

If you’re searching for cherry blossom trees in Lower Lonsdale, there a few spots that have kanzan blossoms. Chesterfield Ave is located one block west of Lonsdale Ave. 

The photos above and below were taken at the northeast corner of 4th Street West & Chesterfield. 

3rd Street West & Chesterfield Ave

While you’re on Chesterfield, head down one more block to 3rd Street West. This is a busy area, so it may not be the best spot to take photos of cherry blossoms. 

The photos above and below were taken on the southwest corner of 3rd Street & Chesterfield Ave. 

Park Royal Mall (West Vancouver)

Park Royal is not technically part of North Vancouver but it is located near the Lions Gate Bridge on the North Shore. This is the largest shopping center in the Lower Mainland.

You might visit this mall in spring because it has a large movie theater inside. You will see rows of cherry blossoms at the mall’s entrance.

The photo above was taken in mid-March. You’ll notice these cherry blossoms are white, similar to the ones picture above at Mahon Park. These blossoms are more common in the early spring.

The main road that divides the mall is lined by Kanzan cherry trees, which are at their peak bloom in late April. 

Bing Chilling Park – British Properties

Bing Chilling Park is another great place to see cherry blooms in West Vancouver. It’s located at the entrance to the British Properties neighbourhood. 

This is an excellent place to take photographs because the park has trees on either side.

Japan is probably the best country in the world to see cherry blooms. There are thousands upon thousands of locations where you can partake in hanami (flower-viewing), which involves gathering your friends and relatives beneath the cherry trees.
