A Great Break On A Blue Mountain Winter Escape In Collingwood Ontario

We drove north of Toronto to Collingwood, Ontario for a Blue Mountain Winter Escape.  It was nice to get away from the city for some winter fun. We visited Collingwood on summer road tripWe had not been there in cold weather for a long time.

Our stay at the Westin Trillium HouseThe Blue Mountains offers the perfect base from which to explore and enjoy the outdoor adventures of The Blue Mountains. Blue Mountain VillageThe area has a lot to offer.  The area was lit up with colourful displays in the evening.

One day, we went to the beach for a relaxing time. Scandinave Spa.  The perfect way of completing a perfect getaway in winter.

Enjoy A Great Resort

We booked a midweek stay at the Westin Trillium HouseBlue Mountain is located in Collingwood, Ontario.  While there was no sleet in Toronto, we did find snow-covered hills about an hour’s drive north of the city. We stopped at a delicious spot to refuel for our trip north.

You can also find out more about the following: Westin Trillium ResortIt was right at the base for the Blue Mountain ski runs.  It was only a short stroll around the pond. Blue Mountain Village.  It was the ideal location for a winter break.

The resort had many cozy indoor spaces for us to enjoy after we returned from the cold. The heated outdoor pool and hot-tub offered more ways to enjoy winter.

The resort we chose for our winter vacation was perfect.

A Room with a View

We were very happy to be upgraded to a suite during our stay.  There was plenty of space to spread out.  A full kitchen provided us with many options for meals.  The chocolates and wine were a lovely welcome gift.

Our room had a view of the resort pools towards the left. Blue Mountain Village.  It was a beautiful sight both day and night.

Winter Fun in the Hills

Skiing in Blue Mountain has been a tradition for many years. Winter activities to do in Ontario.  On the Blue Mountain hills, there were 5 long and several shorter ski lifts that covered 43 runs.  I hesitate to refer to them as “mountains”Skiers will love it!  Blue Mountain was a great place to ski or snowboard in the winter.  There were 30 runs open at night.  Snow tubing was a great option for those who wanted a less-skilled snow experience.

Winter Fun

We drove up Scenic Caves Road to the top of the ski runs and took a look.  We also got a panoramic look from the top.  The Off-Piste PavilioA private event venue was located at the top.  It was not being used when we were there, but it was an excellent spot for a quick break with a beautiful view.

We found the skating loop next to the Off-Piste Pavilion.  This 1.1km loop was lit at night and went through the trees.  There were also skate rentals available. There are also skate rentals available. Scenic CavesThere are 27km of groomed tracks for outdoor winter fun.  Nordic cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are both available here.

A Village Experience Pass is available for even greater fun.  We could have learnt how to throw an Axe.  Or, we could have relaxed with a class in pottery.  The Plunge Aquatic Center provided even more indoor winter fun.  We were tempted to play Pickleball, our first game.

Wander In Blue Mountain Village

From our window at the Westin Trillium HouseWe have a good view of the Blue Mountain Village.  The village centre was only a short distance away.  We were surprised by the number of shops in Blue Mountain Village.  A window displayed a model town and ski hills. If we needed additional winter gear, sportswear shops were nearby.  We found specialty shops for a variety of interests.  We even found a Rocky Mountain Chocolate shop!

The first time we saw Blue Mountain Village after dark was while walking along the Mill Pond path.  The twinkling, colourful lights drew us in.

The colourful light show was amazing.  This was definitely a snow wonderland.

We had a wonderful time exploring the Blue Mountain Village in Collingwood during our Blue Mountain Winter Escape.

Enjoy the Winter Colour Display for Blumination

The colourful display of light in Blue Mountain Village was stunning.  We were amazed by the light and movement displays along the pond as we walked around. Blumination Light Trail. Our path began at the Westin Trillium House with a reminder that Après Ski was a fun part of all Winter activity in Ontario.

A musical stroll under the Frozen Sky was the perfect way to set the mood for the light and sounds show we experienced. We stopped at the giant lighted blue sign to get a spectacular view of the pond.  On one side, we found the colourful Blue Mountain Village.  On the other side, a beautiful view of the Westin Trillium House.

On one side of the Blue Mountain VillageWe stopped and watched as the colourful balls lit up the trees.   In another place, we were treated to a musical performance accompanied by colourful balls arranged in the snow.  In another location, we found colourful icicles that were dancing in colour.

Blumination Colour

We were ecstatic to have completed the path back to our hotel.  We stopped whenever we saw something interesting along the way.  The Aurora Borealis display reminded of the colourful natural display that we had not yet experienced.

Booking a Spa Day At The Scandinave Spa

On many trips up north in Ontario, we’ve considered a trip to the Scandinave Spa.  Our mid-week visit to the Westin Trillium HouseThe spa was open at a time when we didn’t have to drive to Toronto.

You can also find out more about the following: Scandinave SpaThe Thermal Journey is a complete outdoor experience that includes both hot and cold experiences.  There was a small reduction for a Wednesday visit.  We wanted to include massages on our visit for both of us, so we could only go on Thursday.

We had booked our massages for 9am, but were allowed to enter at 8:30.  The nature spa was intended to be a quiet retreat for a digital detox.  We were asked to keep our phones in the lockers provided.  

We were able, because we arrived early, to get a view of the outdoor area empty before we went in.  It was a great way to get us excited for our relaxing Blue Mountain winter getaway.

After signing in we received a thick fluffy robe, and towels.  We were each given a plastic bracelet with an electronic chip that opened and locked a locker.

After changing into our bathrobe, we went to the massage room.  We were amazed by how busy it was so early in the morning.

After the deep tissue massage, we showered again before heading outside to experience the Thermal Journey.  The recommended approach was 10-15 minutes for hot, 5-20 seconds of cold and then 1–15 minutes of relaxation.  We began in the hot jacuzzi, with the waterfall pounding on our shoulders.  After a quick dip in the ice-cold pool, we enjoyed 15 minutes of bliss in the eucalyptus scented steam sauna.

As we continued to explore the spa complex, we discovered more hot jacuzzis and another ice cool plunge pool.  Our thermal journey was completed by a large dry sauna.

We found different places to relax between treatments.  Outdoor chairs in the grass or next to a firepit offered forest and mountain views.  Indoors, we found zero gravity chairs that were padded and comfortable.  All were great places to relax as we walked around.

We had a relaxing and enjoyable half-day at the Scandinave Spa during our Blue Mountain winter getaway.  As we were about to leave, it seemed that the spa was very busy. Despite the requirement for silence, the retreat felt less peaceful and inviting.  If we were to return, we would schedule our massages in the late morning hours and enjoy a few hours before our massage during the early opening hours.

Eat Your Way Around Town

Free breakfasts were always a treat. Enjoy the benefits of Marriott Bonvoy Elite Status.  And the breakfasts in the Oliver and Bonacini O&B Cafe GrillIt was a great way to start the day.  This hotel restaurant was a great option when we returned late in the evening.

We were pleasantly surprised to find so many more great options when we wandered through Blue Mountain Village.  There was plenty of variety to satisfy everyone.  We enjoyed the variety of shops, including some speciality shops. CheezedThey also offered gourmet grilled-cheese sandwiches.  Canadian specialties include BeavertailsYou can also order poutine.

We enjoyed visiting local bakeries while traveling around Ontario.  So we made sure to stop at Paula’s Pantry and Heavenly Cafe for a sweet treat or two.

Our Blue Mountain winter adventure was a great way to burn calories.  It was great to find delicious food and drinks along the way.

There are many ways to do something. Enjoy the winter in OntarioIn Canada.  We often went on day trips but it was great to plan a Blue Mountain Winter Escape in Collingwood.
